MISSION STATEMENT

Holy Cross Parish, located in the Southeast Bronx, is a Roman Catholic multi-cultural, community of diverse economic, educational and social levels. Rooted in the Franciscan tradition, we are dedicated to the achievement of maximum human and spiritual development and dignity of all persons whether active or alienated.

The clergy and religious, in collaboration with an empowered laity, strive to establish the Kingdom of God through prayer, liturgical celebrations, quality education at all levels, the fostering of social justice, ecumenism and sound stewardship. We are brothers and sisters seeking to be one in spite of our diversity.

DECLARACIÓN DE MISIÓN

La Parroquia de la Santa Cruz, localizada en el Sureste del Bronx, es una comunidad multi-cultural, Católica Romana de diversos niveles económico, educacionales y sociales. Arraizados en la tradición Franciscana, estamos dedicados a la realización del desarrollo máximo humano y espiritual y de la dignidad de todas las personas,
activas o marginadas.

El clero y los religiosos, con la colaboración de un laicado comprometido, luchan por el establecimiento del Reino de Dios, por medio de la oración, de celebraciones litúrgicas, de una educación de alta calidad a todos los niveles, de la promoción de la justicia social y una administración solida. Somos hermanos que buscamos ser uno a pesar de nuestra diversidad.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled, as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Oración de San Francisco de Asís

Señor, hazme Instrumento de Tu paz.
Donde haya odio, siembre yo amor;

This coat of arms has been the symbol of the Franciscan Order for many centuries. The image of the two crossed arms, each with a nail wound in the hand, represent both Christ and St. Francis who received the Stigmata (the wounds of Christ) in his body two years before he died.

The cross behind the arms is actually the letter "T" or "Tau" which is the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Francis was very fond of the passage in the prophet Ezekiel (9:4) which refers to the faithful of God all being signed on the forehead with the letter "Tau." Francis often signed his letters with this symbol.

Este escudo de armas ha sido el símbolo de la Orden Franciscana por muchos siglos. La imagen de los dos brazos cruzados, cada mano con la herida del calvo, representan Cristo y San Francisco quien recibió la Stigmata (las llagas de Cristo) en su cuerpo dos años antes de su muerte.

La cruz atrás de los brazos es la letra "T" o "Tau" que es la ultima letra en alfabeto Hebreo. Francisco le gustó mucho el pasaje del profeta Ezequiel (9:4) que refiere a los fieles de Dios signados en la frente con la letra "Tau." Francisco frecuentemente firmó sus cartas con este símbolo.
